How should I trim the fur of a Border Collie?

If you want to try this you should buy a grooming book specific to Border Collies. After you have read the book you will have a better understanding of how to do the grooming. If you mess up the hair will grow back.

I would suggest for the safety of yourself and the dog to take the dog to a professional groomer. Plus it will look even better that way.

Border Collies have fairly short hair. It isn't common practice to trim them. If shedding is the problem, there are solutions for that without actually trimming the fur. I would suggest giving your dog a good bath, a nice blowout, and then brushing him. You can use a rake or a product like the furminator to help with the shedding.

You should take the dog to your local pet store, vet or grooming center. It is very difficult to groom a dog property and easy to mess up.

Well if you want to trim the fur then start from the very bottom to the very top. I also think that it is better to leave the fur on it as the dog is very sensitive to changes in hair and fur. The fur helps protect the dog from the climate.

Rough Border Collies only need some trimming around the ears with scissors and feet pads shaved with clippers. Do not shave their fur in the summer.

Most border Collie cuts are more cleaning up than actually shaving the dog down. Groomers will brush out the stray fur with comb like a Furminator, then they will trim the feathering behind the legs and clean up stray hairs all over the body. You could do it at home with a good brush and scissors

They are rough because their hair is so long When I do it I sometimes use leave in conditioner it helps the hair not stick together make sure you have the correct brushes and combs and when you groom make sure you also groom the face its very important. Also the under belly and inside the back legs.

With regular brushing, your border collie shouldn't need trimming at all. In fact, most double-coated dogs shouldn't be trimmed. Instead, massage your dog vigorously to loosen fur, then brush daily.

It depends on what you're purpose for grooming her is. If you want to show her you should go to a professional groomer and get advice because you don't want to mess up too badly. If you're just wanting to groom excess hair it isn't as big of a deal.

I have a border collie mix, and I cut his hair myself. Get a decent pair of hair cutting scissors. They can be really expensive, but you'll be fine if you go with what's in your budget. Hold the hair between your fingers and run them up. Just cut the ends of the hair off.

Trimming dog fur, especially that of a Collie is very tricky. It is recommended that you have a properly licensed groomer do the trim instead.
