I have terrible knee pain while running on the treadmill, should I move towards using the elliptical instead?

Definitely. If the pounding is causing your knees to hurt, then you need to move to a lower impact workout and protect your knees.

The pain may be due to the impact, but it may also be due to your stride or the shoes you are wearing. Get fitted for running shoes and this will help you learn if you hyper or hypo protonate.

Using an elliptical instead of a teadmill could be a good decision if you are experiencing knee pain while using a treadmill. You could also try running outstide, possibly on a softer surface, to reduce the stress on your knees from th impact of running.

I would, but I would also see a therapist or your family doctor, to see what the problem is. If you are having pain running though, certainly ease off of it for awhile. Give it some time and try again, but in the meantime, using the elliptical for your cardio is a good idea.

Yes, running greatly damages your knees because of the impact. It can do great long term damage. Using an elliptical doesn't have nearly as great an impact on your knees, so that would be a good alternative.
