If you hook a 600w amp to a 300w power supply what will happen?

Is this dangerous? Will it explode? Or will there not be enough power to actually transmit?

Most likely the power supply will fail when the amp output is increased above the power supply capability (300w). In a 110 circuit this is approximately 3 amps of current (Watts = Voltage x current). At 600 watts, the amp will try to pull 6 amps of current and the supply will either shut down or fail depending on the design.

Hooking up the 600W amp will not cause any problem until a load is applied that draws over 300W. Many power supplies will have a fuse that will blow if you go beyond its rating. Other will have breakers that will trip and turn off the power supply. It is never recommended to exceed the power supply rating.
