The English Mastiff, also known as the Old English Mastiff, are the heaviest dog recognized by the AKC. However, the tallest breed is the Irish Wolfhound with a recorded height of 5 foot high at its shoulders.

The largest breed in the AKC is the Mastiff. The general definition is a large ,deep chested, and strong ancient times dog. Alot of the larger breeds acknowledgeby the AKC originated from the mastiffs. Other breeds that runner ups are the Irish wolf hound,great dane newfoundland and st, benard. Good luck.
