This depends on if your company has you covered. Workman's Compensation is a collective fund paid into by your employer from out of your pay check. Even if you are unpaid, you are still considered an employee and may very well be included under your company's payments; meaning if they've paid for you during your employ with them.

Depends upon the state, in Florida unpaid pt interns meeting FSLA do not have to covered. Could open an organization up to liability, but its done all the time.

Workman's Compensation covers anyone who is employed by the company, whether or not they are paid. If you have been injured, you should be covered.

Unpaid internship will not be covered. To receive compensation you would have had to be working and contributing to the fund. Eligibility is based on units you accrue over years of actually working and getting a paycheck. Since you do not get a salary you did not contribute.

Generally, no. It is necessary to be either an employee or volunteer in order to file for workman's compensation. It is also important to verify the volunteer position since not all volunteers are covered. Volunteers ususally have to be involved with a governmental entity. Always check with an attorney.
