Asian is still an acceptable term, but it is so broad that generalizations using the term are sometimes taken as offensive. Whenever possible, it is best to use a more specific term like East Asian or South Asian, or even if possible refer to national origins.

Asian is an acceptable reference to a culture, practice, food or regional practice. It is also acceptable to describe a person if you do not know their national origin. For example, describing a crime suspect as Asian is correct.
