Yes, hydroelectric power is one of the most environmental friendly alternative energies in the world. A collection of small wind powered windmills could power an entire city for a month with what is generated in a few days. It's also easy to use and manipulate. So yes, it is a very good idea!

Windmills are a good idea in theory, but can be extremely expensive. You need to evaluate what it will cost you, and see if it will work for you in the long run.

For one's own electrical needs, a personal wind generated system would be good in that it would lessen energy costs and dependency on others for power.

These windmills will decrease a local site's dependence on the power grid, but it may not be enough to make a location energy independent. Windmills also have the disadvantage of running mostly at day and during the spring and fall when energy demand is lower than night time and summer and winter.

The answer is yes, but it depends on where the wind turbine is to be located. A vertical axis turbine is generally better for locations where the average wind speed is lower since they tend to work better at slower wind speeds. Also avoid attaching a turbine on your home since the stress load could be too much.

I love the idea of using alternative energy methods for power. While it may not seem like it, almost all of the rivers that can use hydroelectric plants have been used. Another alternative is using windmills, but they have to be the large cumbersome windmills in order to be efficient. The small, personal windmills don't generate enough power.

It's not a bad idea as long as precautions are taken to reduce the threat they may pose to birds. Preliminary research at wind farms in the Pacific Northwest indicates there may be a danger to birds striking the turbine blades but this problem is easily mitigated in several ways.

It couldn't hurt. Any way to conserve energy is not a bad idea. The only thing is if there is no wind they will not work.
