The trouble comes when you realize you're at different stages in life and want different things. For example, he's ready to retire/travel and you're at the high-point of your career.

Yes, the only thing I would suggest is that he be within a 1-5 year age range (however if you are under 18 keep it between 1-2 years not only for legal reasons but for maturity and sexual reasons. ) If your equally yoked (meaning you have the same views on relationships, family, and even religion) it's fine.

It is fine to date a guy that is older than you, unless you are under 18 and he is much older than 18. This is illegal. A good general rule for dating older men is if he is more than 20 years older than you. Anything more could be to complicated.

I have dated many older guys and I find that it's actually okay to date a guy that's older than you. However, I wouldn't go any older than 12 years and if you go that high make sure that you two are on the same level of maturity. If the age gap is too large things wont work out.
