Well first off it is great that you are thinking about your financial future and that you have enough liquid assets that you can now invest. Mutual funds are a great way to go if you are after something that is easy, conservative and if you are planning on sticking with it for the long haul.

If you can afford to buy the shares, it is a strong mutual fund with a solid track record. Berkshire Hathaway is owned and maanged by Warren Buffet, known as one of the greatest investment minds.

I invested in a Berkshire fund a year ago. It was BRK-B or Brk. B. --depending on who is listing it. It has gone up a couple of hundred dollars. The reason that I feel comfortable with Berkshire funds is that Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett are not greedy. They are willing to spread the wealth.

There is no reason to buy into a mutual fund if you want to own Berkshire Hathaway. Berkshire's B class shares trade cheaply enough that almost anyone can own them.

I believe you are speaking about the Berkshire stock. Buffet doesn't run a mutual fund, but rather a holding company. The answer depends on the level of risk you are willing to take for return. Historically, the stock has delivered solid returns for the past several decades.
