Is the "1-2-3 Magic" program an effective way to discipline kids?

I was thinking about getting it for my classroom (second grade).

Though many parents and educators say that 1-2-3 Magic is an effective management strategy, some professionals say that the approach allows children to wait until the third warning to respond to requests. Supporters of the Love and Logic approach argue that 1-2-3 Magic can teach kids that it is okay not to respond immediately to a request.

In one word YES! I really never believed any books with the words magic and children in the title but I tell you this book really works. You can read this book and start using the 1-2-3 method right away . My children were very young when I started it and now they are in 2nd grade and Kindergarten.

This is not a good program or an effective way to discipline children. Children eventually figure out that there is only a predictable and limited punishment at the end.

It depends on the child. My daughter never let me get past one but my son just sits and looks at me. Some kids hate upsetting authority and some children get a kick out of it. Second graders might not be so willing to push the limits if their limits have already been set for them.

yes it is quite useful. When used consistently it is a very effective discipline tool. The biggest benefit is that kids will know when you mean what you are saying
