The US is definitely in a recession. We have been in a recession for over a year now, and up to a month ago we are seeing signs that we are pulling away from a recession. Even though, we may not be normal for a couple of years since the amount of time we were in a recession.

The USA is not currently in recession, however it will soon be if consumers continue to buy with credit cards.

Technically, no. The recession ended when the United States had positive Gross Domestic Product growth from July to September of 2009.

A recession is, by definition, 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. So yes, we are in a recession, but the hard part in determining a recession is that you are always looking backwards to predict what is happening in the present, so it will take awhile to identify the end.

A recession is defined by at least two quarters of negative growth in GDP. The USA had a GDP growth of +3. 5% annualized in the last quarter, therefore according to the National Bureau of Economic Research no recession. Another definition of recession: +1. 5% rise in unemployment over a year. Yes.

Right now America's economy has really gone down the toilet. About 17% of American's do not have jobs. People in all classes are having issues of some sort and are having to cut down on certain things that they do. Some people can't afford bills and are foreclosing on their homes and cars.
