I do not know of any reason that this would be any danger to a race horse. Race horses have such a specialized diet that I do not think I would tinker with their feeding regimen. I wouldn't mess with the horse's diet if he happens to be racing. Processed feed usually has appropriate ingredients - including bran.

I remember reading some where that people used to feed horses bran mash to help put on weight and muscle. But to be on the safe side I would ask a qualified veterinarian.

When buying feed it's best to look at the back of the bag instead of having a brand recommended. Buy a feed based on how active your horse is.

Wheat Bran is an excellent source of fibers, fats, and energy for horses. It allows horses in heavy training to maintain a better weight, and build stronger, healthier muscle. The added fiber will help to ward off impaction colic, and other forms of digestive upset. Check with your feed representative for proper amounts to give a horse in training.
