This could be a sign of a very serious condition called Volvulus or Gastric Torsion, which is basically a twisting of the dog's stomach. If this is the case, the dog needs immediate veterinary care or it could literally die in less than an hour.

Your dog may be sick or poisoned, in need of immediate veterinary care. Laying down and staying there would indicate he was seriously ill or dying. If you can't get to the vet, put the dog in a warm, dry place with plenty of water and watch him.

Your dog is having stomach pain, this is why he doesn't want to lay down. The fact that he's vomiting along with pain means it's time to visit the vet.

If you have a kennel or crate, confine him to it. If you don't, you could try using his leash to confine him.
