Your platty most likely is afflicted with the fish disease commonly called "ich". This is a fungus which will affect your whole tank. While the other fish seem fine now, they won't for long. Platty will have to be treated or removed from your tank.

This is a common fungus an it affect stressed fish. Some fish will show while others don't. Goto your local fish store and buy an over the counter medicine ( I like PimaFix). Be sure to remove the carbon cartridges from your filter, this will be safe for a week or so. Add the medicine in the proper amount.

Well they do have a cottony growth. In fact, it is very common with the platy. It means that your platy may be pregnant. So follow her growth and see.

Chances are your platy has some sort of a fungus that is causing the growth. This is usually a result from some sort of trauma to the area, or infection. If it is due to trauma, you can treat it with a dose of salt. However, medicine will be required to treat the infection.
