My Toyota 22RE misses. How can I troubleshoot the problem?

It misses after it warms up.

If it is missing after the warm up then you need new spark plugs. What makes them miss is a plug that is not firing or miss firing.

Try replacing the spark plugs. Make sure they're correctly gapped. Check the air filter; if it's clogged, it could cause the mixture to be too rich. If that doesn't help, try replacing the fuel filter and using an injector cleaner fuel additive. If none of the above work, take the car to a Toyota dealership.

This is most likely a sensor problem. The first ones I would check or replace would be the oxygen sensor or the throttle position sensor.

the first thing you want to do is see if there are any sparks coming from the wires, plugs, or cap. then you will know what cylinder it is.

Well if it is a heat related miss then more than likely there is a faulty ignition component. Check your plugs, coils, and wires to make sure everything looks good.

Start engine and let it warm up and start missing. Next pull one spark plug wire at a time until you find a cylinder with the least effect on running.

If it is missing really bad you need to put a tune up in it and that should solve the problem for you.

Try putting new spark plugs in. I recommend double platinum or fine wire for best results. If that doesn't solve it, try replacing the coil pack or distibuter and spark plug wires. If the problem still persists have a compression test done by a trained mechanic. It will allow the problem to be properly diagnosed without causing more problems.
