My turtle's shell turned all black and kind of looks like its thinner and chipping does this mean he is sick?

You need to take your turtle to a vet. A damaged shell can be fatal to a turtle. It is possible that you have not been providing enough light in his habitat or calcium in his diet. This could cause the shell to become weak and thin. He may also have a fungal infection.

This is natural during the span of their lifetime. If it is becoming of more concern get it checked out by a vet. Make sure the water is clean.

It may be that your turtle has caught a bacterial infection and it would be a good idea to take your turtle to a vet.

It seems like your turtle needs different lighting. It might not getting the proper nutrition to keep its shell hard, it could definitely be sick. See a vet.
