Absolutely. As the number of the club goes down, the physical length of the club is longer, necessitating standing further back from the ball. Therefore, your stance should be wider, and you should stand farther from the ball with a 3 iron than a 7 iron.

Your stance should be such that the sole ( bottom part of the iron ) is parallel to the ground. Your knees should be bent slightly and you should be leaning forward slightly. The shorter irons ( wedge, 9 iron ) you will be closer to the ball. The longer irons ( 5, 4 ) you will be further away.

Your stance will be determined by the length of the shaft. The 9 iron has a shorter shaft than a 4 iron. You want the sole ( bottom part ) of the club to be parallel to the ground. Bend your knees accordingly to achieve that position. The shorter irons will have you closer to the ball.

To a point, it should. The ball should be moved farther forward for longer irons, a bit back shorter irons. Your stance should be varied to hit different shots though, opening up for some wedge shots, pitches, and chips!
