Should we get an inspection on a house before renting it?

Or is that a waste of money?

I would not pay for an inspection if you are renting. I would, however, go through the property before signing a lease and make note of all necessary repairs asking the owner to take care of them before you take possession of the property. Also, ensure you have a lease that clearly states who is responsible for repairs.

It is not clear what you want to inspect. Problems that are revealed later will be the responsibility of the landlord, not the tenant, so an inspection is pointless.

Yes this is a waste of money. You should however document with photos the condition of all rooms and save these photos for when you want to get back your security deposit. Make sure you document all stains on rugs, broken things and do not forget the bathrooms and outside.

In most cases, inspections on rental property is not necessary. However, if there are specific concerns that effect health, it may be worth it to have the property inspected.
