Should you be able to see a fetal pole at 9 weeks?

My doctor says he does not see a fetal pole.

A fetal pole should be visible starting between 5. 5 and 6. 5 weeks, but if you're not sure exactly when you became pregnant, you may think you're much further along than you really are. It's possible that instead of being 9 weeks pregnant, you're only 5 weeks pregnant, especially if your menstrual cycles are irregular.

After 6 weeks, a sonogram usually shows a fetal pole. Repeat the sonogram in two weeks. If no heartbeat or fetal pole is visible, the pregnancy is not viable.

At nine weeks gestation there should be a definite fetal pole during the ultrasound. If you saw a hearbeat then maybe the doctor was mistaken. Otherwise you should request a second ultrasound.

Normally by 6 weeks he'd see a fetal pole. By 9 weeks your doctor should not only see a fetal pole, he should also be able to detect a heartbeat.

Yes - you should be able to see the fetal pole by nine weeks and the embryo is growing properly. However, you may not have your conception date correct.

Generally you should be able to see one at about 6 weeks of gestation, but I know that a lot of women do not. If your doctor was concerned for the safety of the child, he probably would have told you.
