What advice can you give someone who is going to discontinue using nuvaring?

I have made the decision to stop using nuvaring and want to know what to expect.

You will basically begin to ovulate as soon as you stop taking the birth control. If you were controlling PMS symptoms, those will basically begin to come back (cramping, etc.) within a few months. If you experienced other side effects, expect that those will change to normal as well.

I would suggest that, unless you are ready to have children, that you should definitely make sure that you have a back up birth control method. You are more likely to get pregnant having just come off birth control, because of all the hormones that are in your system.

I went off of NuvaRing a few years ago because it was causing severe mood swings. I went onto a pill with a lower hormone level. I spotted a few times during the first pill cycle, but the transition was fine otherwise.

You should expect a change in hormones, moodiness and your menstrual cycle starting or returning. It will not necessarily come in 28 days.
