The Din refers to the standardize size of aftermarket radios. They are measured in dins. So a double din is twice the size a a standard din. Meaning it either needs a double din aftermarket stereo or a special mounting kit to take up the extra room.

DIN refers to a car stereo that is 2 inches tall and 7 inches long. So in a double "din" would be twice that size, 4 inches by 14 inches.
