A granger is an individual, usually involved in agriculture or animal husbandry, who belongs to an organization called "The Grange." The Grange was formed shortly after the American Civil War for the purpose of organizing social events and education events for people engaged in ranching and farming. Farming was often isolating, and The Grange helped lessen that.

I don't think it is a job more so than it is a company. To be honest, I've never heard of that in my entire academic career so I have no idea.
