If you're referring to a group of friends or a small intimate gathering as such. Generally you can, although if you try to charge admission or benefit from it you could be infringing on the laws.

Movie Copyright laws are put in place to protect the work of an artist or artists who create an original film or documentary. This prohibits people from using the said artists work for purposes such as financial gain or from claiming ownership of the original work.

The copyright warning at the beginning of any video states that you may not profit from a private showing of the movie, so as long as you're not charging your friends for movie night, you're okay.
