Any exercise which only raises your heart level slightly. You should be able to speak and breathe normally. Walking at a leisurly rate is a good example. In cases where your joints need protection, swimming or pool activities are good choices.

Examples of non-strenuous exercise include yoga, tai chi, swimming (slowly), strolling instead of walking, and even doing things such as house cleaning (dusting, vacuuming, etc.). There are probably sports that could be played in a non-strenuous way, such as golf. Many strenuous activities can be slowed down and will therefore be non-strenuous.

Non-strenuous exercise involves low impact activities that can be done by people who are out of shape. Activities that fall into this category include walking, water aerobics and beginning yoga.

Walking, either on land, or in the shallow end of a pool. An easy bike ride, on a real bike or stationary one. Some forms of yoga can be nonstrenuous.

There are numerous non-strenuous exercises. The most common is walking. Of course, walking ceases to be non-strenuous if you over-do it, but it counts if you walk slowly. Other common exercises of this sort include some forms of yoga, stretching, slow dancing (many forms of ballroom, for example), and more.
