Divide up all the ornaments in a ranking of how old they are to how new they are. Decorate the tree starting from the top with the oldest ornaments and work your way to the bottom (newest).

Try decorating your whole tree in the little toys you get in children's fast food meals. You can collect them all year by scouting garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores. The themes you can use are limited only by your imagination-- I've seen trees decorated in silverware, sparkly earrings/necklaces, cartoon characters and Mardi Gras beads.

Bake cookies and brownies and invite family members over to help! To make it even more interactive, have everyone create their own special ornament to hang on the tree.
