What are some good drills to help you hit solid iron shots?

On the range use your irons to shoot at specific targets Take a half practice swing by taking iron back to get correct plane ( angle ) before real shot

A good drill is take practice swings with an iron as if you had a ball on a tee with a driver. If you pay close attention to players on the major tours, you'll see this drill incorporated in their pre shot routines.

The best drill is the 9-3 drill. Work on three quarter shots, not full shots, making sure you concentrate on your follow through and full body rotation. Another drill I like is using a sand wedge, you address the ball as you normally would, pull your hands straight back from the ball, go up to your waist, then swing softly.

Using your wrists and hands pull the club back to parallel, then up to a three quarter swing, basically let the club fall to impact and complete the follow through.
