One of the best excercises for dancing is a kneading motion --- kneading out the muscles of other dancers, kneading bread, making anything that required a pulling against force. My personal favorite training exercise is working out with indian clubs -- the lightest 8-ounce clubs look wimpy but the sort of motions are perfect for dancing.

Some good exercises to build up your arm muscles for dancing are small free weight curls and pushups. You can do both in a small area. You must determine how strong you are before you try either method.

Using light weights, no more than five pounds is a good arm exercise. Dancers do not want to build bulk, instead they should look to build long lean muscles that are easily malleable. Focus these exercises on the tricep area. In addition, any type of yoga pose is helpful to strenghten and elongate the arm muscles.
