Less is better. Don't over clutter your living space by trying to fit too many pieces of furniture. Keep it simple. Use bright colors that will bring happiness and comfort to anyone who walks in your living quarters. If you have blinds, make sure that you still put up curtains.

While it depends on your budget, for inexpensive wall hangings, try a craft place like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. These places also have great little end tables, bookshelves, plant holders and other furniture at good prices. Try buying a "flat" floral arrangement that you can hang above a window. Also, don't forget about the warmth lamps create!

Just think about the things that you like. Don't decorate your apartment a certain way because you think others may not like your style. Its your space, you have to live in it. If you are on a budget check thrift stores for good finds, you can always reupholster.

Personally I am a firm believer in Ikea, but if you are really on a budget and need some helpful decorating tips, I can say that there are lots of DIY tutorials out there to make things with old CDs or reinventing old pieces of furniture.

Do not buy heavy and expensive furniture. If you are going to move soon, it will be that much more difficult and stressful.

One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to decorate a new apartment is by painting. You can easily change the color when ever you get bored with it.
