Most specialized performers, such as tightrope walkers and trapeze artists, attend circus school. You can also be a clown, stilt walker, ringmaster, ticket taker, animal caretaker or roustabout (the person who sets up and tears down the equipment).

You could become a clown, someone who cares for the animals, a vet, the ring master, an acrobat, a sword swallower. There are tons of cool jobs. There is one circus that rides the elephants into the city to the arena. You could work on make up, or costumes, pretend to be a fake audience member.

It depends on your skills. If you're athletic and something of a daredevil, a circus needs acrobats and trapeze artists. If you're good with physical humor, try clowning.

There are many fun jobs in the circus, it just depends on what you like to do. You could play music, that is fun. Or, you could run the games. Seeing kids faces when they win something can be rewarding.

You could start as a "roustabout." These are the guys who do the setup and teardown for the circus. You could sell concessions and/or souvenirs. You could shovel out the elephants' cage. You could be an accountant. There are plenty of jobs associated with circuses that do not involve performing.

One of the highest paid and yet least known jobs in the circus is the Marketing and Advertising field. These workers travel around the world promoting the circus as well as scouting for new potential markets.

Besides performers there are lots of behind the scenes people. Sound & light crew, PR & media folks, bookkeepers. Easier to get one of those jobs to start with.

There are pole walkers and clowns. Also, you can work to organize the shows that happen for the audience. That is always pleasant.

If you want to be a performer then trapeze is a good job or riding an elephant. Ringmaster is the best job, also being a clown is good if you can be funny. If you want to work behind the scenes then making travel arrangements is good. Also, being in charge of food would be good.
