Work with a reputable tattoo artist to find a design that will cover your scar. Some scars, especially ones that are deep or have tissue changes such as ridges, are not concealed with tattoos. A design can still minimize the appearance of a scar by diverting the eye, or the scar shape can be incorporated.

Scars are still in the process of being reabsorbed and may change shape to an unknown extent so choosing a tattoo with a pattern in it such as fish scales or bark will allow for changes while retaining a design.

Really no one design is the best at covering up a scar. Consult a local tattoo artist on what they think would be the best option for a tattoo.

Celtic and Asian symbols are good designs to cover scars because of their intricate patterns. You can also choose a symbol that has meaning to you for your tattoo.

You can always get your sign, a drawing that you've done, or something that means a lot to you. Animals and flowers are pretty common for cover ups.

That's something you're going to have to discuss with a tattoo artist. Some scars cannot be covered by tattoos. Others can be extremely painful to get covered. It's not about the design, but about if the skin will hold ink and be able to be covered.
