Bute is used in horses as an anti inflamatory drug, is it used to treat pain conditions such as arthritis, it doesn't last in the system for long periods of time, it is like humans taking a pain killer, it won't get rid of the problem it will literally numb the pain.

You can use the powdered form of bute and put it in the horse's food, give the bute in paste form through a syringe in the mouth like a dewormer of use the injectible form.

Horses hate the taste of Bute and therefore it can be difficult to give. Try mixing the powdered form into their food or inject the liquid form into an apple. You can also just use the paste and administer it like a de-wormer.

Bute will ulcerate a horse quickly. Do not administer on an empty stomach. Discuss with your vet feeding Gastro Guard as ulcer preventative if horse is to be on Bute for a long time. If in pill form, crush and mix with applesauce, or vanilla yogurt, and administer with a syringe.

Bute- an anti-inflamatory- will cause ulceration in a very short amount of time. Keep the dose as low as possible, for as short a time as possible. For long term use, use a gasto- guard type supplement to protect the stomach.
