Britain had six ruling queens: Mary I, Elisabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria and Elisabeth II. Some sources also add the empress Mathilde as a queen, however her claims were disputed. Wales was conquered during the time of Edward I. The longest British ruling monarch was queen Victoria. She is also the longest ruler of any female monarch in history.

The longest serving monarch in English history was Queen Victoria, who ruled for 63 years. Lady Jane Grey ruled England for only nine days. King George III was supposedly completely insane by the end of his reign. One king, Richard II, married an eight year old French noblewoman. Several monarchs and more than 15 illegitimate children.
