Getting food and clothing in the hands of those who cannot afford these items is one way of strengthening others so they will be able to work. Another option is to train people who are eager and willing to work. They will be very productive for any company or community. A valuable asset.

Among the leading solutions that have been proposed are population control (including the distribution of birth control) and microloans, which allow people to lift themselves out of poverty.

State controlled governments have failed to solve the problem. Countries that give their people the freedom to open businesses and use their natural resources have solved the problem. There will always be some poverty for many reasons. But it can be greatly minimized if people have the freedom to work without being heavily taxed.

Simply giving food to nations has hurt them, since it destroys the local food economy. Farmers can't compete with free food, so they don't plant for the next year, causing a food shortage in the next year. Killing corruption helps nations, since aid given to countries that is siphoned off by bureaucrats helps no one.

The best solutions for preventing poverty were the prevention of illegitimacy and keeping families intact. 21% of single women live in poverty, compared to only 6% of married women. Ensuring property rights are also crucial, because the poor will not invest and cannot sell or mortgage land without clear title and enforced property rights.
