There are many forms of self-destructive behaviors. Some forms of this behavior include any type of drug and or alcohol abuse, self-mutilation, constant self criticism, and or withdrawing from others. Sometimes a person can conceal these and other behaviors from outside relationships for a good period of time. However, small clues of a problem may linger.

Being self-destructive means he is actively participating in activities that are harmful to him, such as drinking, drug use or engaging in risky sexual behavior. Encourage him to get help.

It's anything you do that hurts you in the long or short term. Some examples are drug/alcohol use, eating disorders, or criminal activity. But these behaviors can be more mild. Being rude to friends and driving them away or always being late to work are less extreme examples.

Consistent, deliberate actions which are likely to harm onself are usually considered self-destructive behaviors. Whether or not someone's behavior is self-destructive depends on factors including cultural background and developmental stage.
