In a manic personality disorder, one has a great history of making rash decisions that affect lives negatively, spending money irresponsibly, inability to sleep, severe depression, or feeling as if he or she is on top of the world and no one or nothing can take them down from the feeling. Sometimes mood swings and becoming irritable are also symptoms.

You have no clue what MPD is like until you have it. No textbook, no doctor, and no person on earth can tell you how or what you are feeling and why you are feeling it! One minute you feel total euphoria and then you feel like crud. With meds.  add a comment

There are several symptoms for manic personality disorder. Hyper activity and racing thoughts are a big indication of the disorder. Also watch for impulsive and wreckless behaviors such as overspending, drug use, or unprotected sex, as these are also sings of mania. People with mania also tend to sleep very little, sometimes less than 2 hours per night.

These manic episodes are marked by decreased need for sleep, impulsive behavior, and racing thoughts. These episodes must last at least two weeks in duration to meet criteria.

There is no such thing as manic personality disorder. There is a disorder called bipolar disorder which involves periods of mania and periods of depression but bipolar disorder is not a personality disorder. If you are concerned about your friend's mental health, talk to her about your individual concerns. Throwing a label or diagnosis at someone can shut them down.
