You're main 2 types of monitors are CRT (the old style big heavy monitors) and LCD, or flat panel monitors. You can also get Widescreen or standard.

There are 3 main types of monitors, Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), Light Emitting Diode (LED), and plasma screens. There are multiple less known types though.

CRT which is what most people consider an "old school" monitor, LCD which is often called a "flat panel" and even projectors can be monitors. CRT often have complaints of irritating eyes but tent to be cheap. LCD are now almost the only type sold but still often have a heftier price-tag. You have to buy based on your needs.

This is used in newer computers and laptops and has lower size and weight. The followings are used for various applications.
