First you need your high school diploma. Then you would need to apply at a electrician school or a college that offers an electrician course. Some offer heating and cooling along with this. You need to become a member of the electrician union and work as an apprentice for a short while. The more experience you get the better off.

This is one of those trades that requires an apprenticeship along with schooling. Generally there is one union in your area that operates the apprenticeship programs. They will have their own requirements for entry. Do a search for 'electrician apprentiship programs your area' then start the process. These usually take 2-4 years and there are subspecialties.
