Puppies are given vaccinations in series between six and fifteen weeks of age. The first shot given will be DHP-PV-CV,which needs to be given 3 times. Bordetella is recommended at twelve weeks. Parvo and rabies will be given around the fifteenth week of age.

There are two core puppy vaccinations: DHLPP-C, often abbreviated as 'distemper' and given in a series usually ending at 16 weeks; and rabies, which only needs to be given once to a puppy, and is usually the only one required by law.

The required puppy shots I believe are for rabies, parvo and mange. I think there is more than one part to one or more of those shots.

For a first time puppy visit they usally de worm them and give them a variety of shots called DHLPP. One other shot they will give is a rabies vaccine which is required by law. After the first de worming the usually require 2 more to make sure no worms are in the puppy. DHLPP is yearly shots.
