Magnetic and electric forces can both be attractive and repulsive, both are potential energies, Magnetism can produce electricity, and electricity can produce magnetism. Both need to get closer to another object of the opposite polarity so that their effect can occur.

A magnet has two opposite poles, referred to as north and south. Opposite magnetic poles attract each other, and similar magnetic poles repel each other, exactly as happens with electric charges. The force depends on the strength of the poles and the distance between them. This is similar to the Coulomb's inverse square law for electric charges.

Magnetism is related to electricity by the use of positive and negative forces. Electricity is the movement of electrons which are negatively charged. In order to move the electrons one uses a magnet to propel the electrons away from the positively charged counterparts the proton.
