Sleep occurs in stages. The first stage is a light stage of sleeping. During the second stage the brain produces rapid bursts of brain activity. During the third stage, slow brain waves begin to develop. The fourth stage is deep sleep and the fifth stage is when most dreaming occurs.

A light sleep is when you are still relatively awake. When body temperature begins to relax, you begin to nod off. As you are feeling relax you begin to snore.
