The pet will act unusual and may seem not to recognize you. They will run a very high fever which will cause confusion and lethargy. Have your pet vaccinated at the appropriate times for distemper.

The first symptoms of distemper is a fever. Other early symptoms include the loss of appetite and eye inflammation. As the distemper progresses symptoms include eye and nose discharge, diarrhea, heavy breathing, and vomiting. The most serious symptoms, diagnosable by a veterinarian, are swelling of the brain and spinal cord.

Symptoms of distemper can include: Fever, Inflammation of the eyes, and loss of appetite the first few days. If not looked at in the first few days it can progress to depression, loss of basic motor functions, loss of basic mental skills, and can lead to paralysis. It can lead to seizures and lastly death.

The common symptoms of distemper are vomiting, diarrhea, cough, and nasal and/or ocular discharge. IF you suspect distemper, you must take your dog to a vet as soon as possible. Distemper is highly contagious and usually fatal. You dog may seem to improve, then get worse after a couple weeks.

By the time you realize there are symptoms, it's too late. Your pet should have been vaccinated. Early symptoms are fever, loss of appetite and eye inflammation. Later include vomitting, sensitivity to touch, pneumonia, twitching, spasms, paralysis. There is no excuse for later symptoms as all dogs need to have their requisite vaccinations and treatments. It is HIGHLY contagious.
