I try to maintain a schedule as close to my normal one as possible, stay hydrated on the plane, and try not to be rushed. If I will be gone for only a few days, I try not to shift my schedule more than halfway to the destination time. Otherwise, I gradually shift to the new time.

when you get to your destination, try to spend some time on the grass, out in the sun if possible... these sensations help to reset your body's internal clock because they are closely associated with the daytime.

If I am flying west to east on a long trip, I try and avoid, or get less sleep the night before so that I am tired sooner when I arrive. This gets me to sleep near normal time and a good night's sleep usually resets me to the new zone.

The best way to avoid jetlag is being able to comfortably sleep while on the plane. I also drink 1 glass of hot tea when I arrive in my destination. If all else fails, a warm bath with tea leaves helps as well.
