Treatment will depend on the severity of the impingement. There are many things you can do that will help reduce the pain. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medications, and sleeping on a firm mattress with a pillow under your knees will help reduce the pain. Alternating heat and ice packs on the area will also help.

Your doctor can give you pain relief medication. To help yourself, don't lift anything or bend. Sleep on a firm mattress and don't sit on chairs that are too soft. If you need help to stand up, ask for it. Heat or cold packs applied to back and upper legs should help give relief.

Chiropractic care is the best option. Sciatica is caused by an imbalance of the skeletal-muscular system causing pressure on the sciatic nerve which can be alleviated by a chiropractic adjustment.

Treating sciatica is a common issue for many people,. When you first experience back pain alternate hot and cold packs to relieve some of the pain. Ibuprofen can help reduce the inflammation as can ample rest. It often helps to lie down with a pillow under your knees. In most cases the pain will end within a week.
