Taking your dog to the Veterinarian would be appropriate in this case. It may be an inhaled allergen, but it could also mean that your dog has heart problems.

I had a dog with an infrequent cough. I brought him to the vet to find out if anything is wrong. The vet did some tests on him and used a microscope down his throat. In the end the doctor diagnosed him with a small trachea. He told me nothing could be done, but it posed no health threat.

There are a number of potential causes for a cough, many of which are quite serious. If your dog has been coughing for more than 2 weeks, consult a vet.

Veterinarians have cough suppressants that work great for dogs. A cough can be a sign of kennel cough or it may just be a minor throat irritation. If the cough is followed by any type of mucus then that indicated that there is a bacteria infection and a vet should be contacted at once.

There really isn't alot you can do for that. The dog may just have a little allergy to something and when it gets near it the cough lets you know.

A dog coughs as a reflex to clear their throat. If it is a chronic cough lasting more then 3 weeks consult you VET. Good luck.
