You don't help your cat give birth. She will know what she's doing instinctively for the most part. She should be calm, cats do not experience the same pain as humans. Keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't appear in distress. If she does, call the vet. Do NOT touch the kittens.

The best thing to do is create a "birthing" spot for them. Make it comfortable and high walled, so when the kittens arrive they cannot get lost.

Before your cat gives birth, have a soft and clean nest of blankets or towels ready for her. This is where she will deliver. You may want to make a holding box close to the nest for the kittens. During birth make sure the amniotic sac is removed by the mother and all the placenta is delivered.

If you really want to help your cat in giving birth, you should trust on her maternal instinct. Stay at her side and help her if there is something wrong.

For the most part the cat will be fine on its own. But to help you can set up a box with some blankets for the cat to give birth in. As well, make sure the mother removes the amniotic sac from each kitten so that it can breath.

The best thing to do is to leave her alone. Make sure she has a dimly lit, quiet place to have her babies.
