Apostolic churches are those that can trace their origins to the Apostles. The Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches are apostolic; the Pope is the successor to St. Peter and the Ecumenical Patriarch is the successor to St. Andrew.

Apostolic churches are varieties of Pentecostal Christian churches. They generally attempt to return to traditional Christian teachings from Jesus' time and the first century after Jesus' death. They practice baptism by immersion, not by sprinkling of holy water.
