What can you tell me about marriage and adopting my wife's children?

If the children don't see their father, he's deceased, or don't have a relationship with them and they do have a good relationship with you, I think it's very admirable of you to want to adopt them. If the ex-husband pays child support and gives up his parental rights, your wife will no longer be eligible to receive child support.

Adopting your wife's children makes you responsible for them as a natural father would be. In the even of devorce. You would be required to pay child support untill they reach 18 years old.If going to school age 21 or what ever your state law requires.

It's great you want to adopt your wife's children. However keep in mind if you ever divorce you will owe child support for these children. Something to consider befe you sign the papers.

This can be a most beautiful experience. Just take your time to make your decision. Marriage is twice as hard (or twice as good) when there are stepchildren involved.
