Usually the hand is put into a cast or splint whle it heels. The rehab can take up to six months. During this time the patient is told to avoid heavy lifting, pulling, pushing or throwing with the injured arm. Contact sports is also out of the questions along with any activity that could cause further injury to the arm.

After the scaphoid has fused back together, hand therapy may be needed to regain motion and strength in the wrist. Most exercises will be basic range of motion exercises with small amounts of opposition to strengthen the wrist. Pulsed electromagnetic stimulation can also be used, which causes the muscles to contract and relax also strengthing the wrist.

The treatment is open reduction and internal fixation. closed reduction and per-cutaneous fixation can be considered in minimally displaced or reducible fractures, whereas open reduction is recommended for all other displaced fracture. Early mobilization after internal fixation is advocated withe the use of playing splint after injuries.
