Rashes can be caused by a lot of things such as a new dog shampoo or even fleas. Dogs can also get "hot spots" which is where they get an itch and then pick at it. In this cause the spot needs to be covered so that they stop picking and it can heal.

Certain breeds of dogs are more prone than otehrs to develop skin rashes. One of the main causes of a skin rash in a dog is an allergic reaction. Often, the dog is allergic to the food they're wating or something in their environment such as dirt, fleas, shampoo, etc.
