The brightness of a gold poppy bursts forth like sunshine. Gold makes you think of a shiny metal but in reality these beautiful flowers are bright yellow and orange even though the color red is part of what makes the color orange. The depth of their color reminds you of foods like butterscotch pudding, squash or lemons.

Correct, they are not actually metallic-looking. The color of gold poppies can vary, but generally they are either a strong, bright yellow or orange. They're about the color of a yellow crayon or a stick of yellow butter. The poppies also typically aren't uniform in color and may be more orange in the middle.
